Description: A delicate species that is on the endangered species list. Rarely available in the aquarium industry these days. Pristine water conditions are required because these fish are sensitive to water quality problems.

Breeding Information: To induce breeding, feed heavy with live insects and/or mosquito larvae. Raise the tank temperature to about 80 degrees F and lower the water level to around 5 inches. Provide plants with small leaves for the fish to lay eggs on. Blue Hatchetfish are not cannibalistic so the parents can remain in the same tank with the eggs.
Sexing Information: No real way to determine gender visually.
Diet: Carnivorous - diet should include live insects and mosquito larvae but these fish will also accept protein based flake or pellet food.
Temperment: Peaceful schooling fish
Common Diseases: Sensitive to nitrates.
