Symptom
Small crustaceans attached to the body or gills of the infested fish. The fish may scratch itself against the bottom of tank or decorations within the tank. Red lesions where the crustacean is attached to the fish.

Cause
Mostly occours in pond fish and in rare cases on new fish imported into an aquarium.
Treatment
There are several chemicals on the market for this one of them being Metriphonate. Some fish are sensitive to this chemical. So care must be taken when treating the tank. Treatment could take up to two weeks in warm water and even longer in colder water.
Lifecycle of parasite the lifecycle of crustaceans very from a couple weeks up to a few months. Eggs can survive a winter freeze and hatch again in the spring. So the lifecycle varies depending on the temp of the water.
